The sale of charcoal is banned in Nasarawa State

The Nasarawa State Government in Nigeria has banned the sale and use of charcoal in a bid to protect the state’s environment.

Punch quoted Aliyu Agwai, secretary general of the state Ministry of Environment, as saying that charcoal production was extremely harmful to the environment by causing global warming.

The secretary-general made the announcement during a press conference on Saturday.

He explained that deforestation would harm some animals as they would lose their habitat which could be harmful to the environment.

He also warned sellers of charcoal and use it to give up or be arrested.
